Understanding this poem?

I think it's about a girl who had popularity ("people laughing" and "she left glamour") but she didn't really have any friends. She had people surrounding her but she couldn't satisfy her need for a real, true friend. She needed someone to listen to her and appreciate her. She finally found someone who could do that once she "journeyed on a path all alone." It took her leaving behind those other things to find a person who was strong enough to be her friend.
